Exploring the Armagnacs de Montal
What is the difference between
a Blend and a Vintage?
Blend: Consistency and aromatic complexity
When the cellar master determines that certain Armagnacs have been sufficiently aged, he creates the coupes. In this process, eaux-de-vie of different origins and ages are skillfully blended together to create an aromatic profile with consistent yet complex characteristics year after year.
These Armagnacs are classified as VS (minimum 1 year in cask*), VSOP (minimum 4 years in cask*), and XO – Hors d’Âge (minimum 10 years in cask*).
*These ageing requirements apply to the youngest Armagnac in the blend.
Vintage: The expression of a single year and terroir
A particularity of the Armagnac region, a Vintage Armagnac comes from a single harvest year and reflects the terroir and the weather conditions of that year.
The unique character of each Armagnac illustrates the great craftsmanship that lies behind the winegrower’s work.
